Project Location: Texas Energy Museum, Beaumont, Texas
Installation Date: September, 2006
Project Summary
Polymer Array Exhibit
This exhibit is a kinetic and interactive display of products made from the hydrocarbon molecule. The interactive mode is initiated by a visitor pressing a push button corresponding
to one of four hydrocarbon feed stocks. The exhibit lighting then sequentially illuminates sixteen products made from the selected feedstock. After three minutes of inactivity the kinetic mode begins and sequences through each hydrocarbon feed stock. The museum wanted to emphasize a “techno” look. Lamps were fabricated with high intensity white LEDs embedded in polished cast acrylic casings. Data Motion Devices solid state control system was installed behind wall of the exhibit. 281 lamps were used to illuminate the exhibit.
