Kings Mountain National Military Park wanted an interpretation of the Revolutionary War battle of Kings Mountain using a large topographic relief map located as an island exhibit in their new visitors center expansion. The location and ADA design of the exhibit provided limited options to
accomplish the task. Data Motion Devices was able to design, fabricate and install a fiber optic lighting system consisting 2880 points of light used to interpret troop movements and musket fire. Because the high efficiency light sources and solid state controls produce very little heat the compete system was installed within a small cabinet beneath the topographic map. Over 50,000 instructions were used to sequence the lights providing detail to the 9 minute and 27 second program. The control system was synchronized with the audio and narrative text.
